Greyhound and Lurcher Welfare and Rescue (GLWR)

We are a small charity based in North Wiltshire. We take on greyhounds and lurchers from all over the country and from Ireland but tend to rehome in Wiltshire and the surrounding counties where we feel it’s easier for us to home check, do post-homing follow ups and support adopting owners.

We rent a block of 6 kennels for our greyhounds and lurchers and are also lucky to have a small group of fosterers who take on needier hounds requiring more TLC than usual.

We are also lucky to have a small but dedicated band of regular fundraisers and volunteers.

Our fundraisers spend many, many weekends raising awareness and collecting much needed donations.

We have volunteer dog walkers who, between them, try to make sure our dogs get at least one decent walk a day.

Many of these fosterers and volunteers also attend and plan occasional fundraisers and carry out home checks for prospective adopters.

GLWR is a registered charity run by a small number of volunteer trustees who make sure that all our legal and financial dealings are up to scratch and that the charity keeps running as efficiently as possible, as well as carrying out the day to day tasks that ensure our dogs are happy, healthy and ready for rehoming. Amongst other things the trustees also organise and attend fundraisers, update the website: www.glwr.org.uk , deal with enquiries from the public, oversee and carry out home checking, rehoming and post homing checks and support, organise transport, sponsorship and grant applications, run eBay and online shops and administrate an online forum community: www.glwr.proboards.com .

As previously mentioned, we are a small rescue and aim to stay small so the focus of our endeavours remains completely on the dogs we help. We feel that this way we can give them our very best.
