Raising awareness
Raising awareness is the second of the two key areas of work for Sighthound Welfare Trust. Our aim is “to educate and provide information to the public on the appropriate care of sighthounds and any welfare issues pertaining to these dogs.
This work focuses on providing information on the care and ownership of sighthounds as well as promoting what great pets they make. It also includes raising awareness and educating the public about sighthound related welfare issues generally, such as Greyhound Racing.
Our website and forums play a key role in delivering this aim. This website contains a vast array of information on sighthound adoption, care and welfare issues; from neutering and microchipping to greyhound racing and puppy farming. The information appeals to the general public at large but also those considering adopting a sighthound and those supporting the welfare of sighthounds. The forums function as a meeting place for discussion, advice and information for sighthound owners and those seeking to further sighthound welfare through rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming and/or as a result of campaigning and awareness raising.
Our fundraising events also allow us to provide information verbally and through literature about sighthound care and welfare as well as fully convey to the general public the issues facing and impacting upon the quality of life for sighthounds.
SWT works with and supports the campaigning of Greyhound Action, its regional branches, Action for Greyhounds UK and The League Against Cruel Sports (LACS).
